Student Assistance Program

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) was created in Pennsylvania by the Departments of Education and Health and Public Welfare to identify students who are experiencing behavior and/or academic difficulties that pose as barriers to their learning. A school's core SAP team is a team of professionals who have received training from Pennsylvania's approved SAP training providers. Students may be referred to SAP for social/emotional difficulties, mental health concerns, drug and alcohol use, eating disorders, and/or depressed or suicidal feelings. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) is to help students overcome these barriers in order that they may achieve, remain in school, and advance.

North Penn's SAP provider is Merakey of Montgomery County. Assessments are provided free of charge to determine risk levels and connect families with outside resources. The Merakey assessor will review results of the screening with families and make recommendations. Individual and small group counseling supports are also provided in the secondary buildings to students.

If you think your child may be in need of a SAP assessment or services, please contact your child's school counselor to discuss.
