The North Penn School District (NPSD) is proud to recognize North Penn High School (NPHS) teacher Mrs. Andrea Lee Roney for being selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction.

Mrs. Roney wears many hats as an educator at NPHS teaching theatre classes including Drama Major, Advanced Acting, Introduction to Acting and Stage Crew. Roney also teaches 10th grade English and an SAT English Prep course. In addition to her busy teaching schedule, Roney serves as the producer and co-director of the NPHS Theatre Program as well as the director of Thespian Troupe #5464.

The Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction is a special program of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) that honors educators worldwide. NSHSS encourages young people around the globe to strive for excellence and embrace their responsibility as our future world leaders. Mrs. Roney mirrors this goal and plays a critical role in student success, as evidenced by her selection for this award.

Roney's nomination as an Educator of Distinction by NPHS junior Samiha Shoshi is a testament to the lasting impact that she is making on today's youth. Roney was nominated by Shoshi in the 2017-2018 school year, during which time Roney served as Shoshi's English teacher. "The Educator of Distinction program embraces my family's tradition of world-class minds and supports the vision of NSHSS to connect its members with meaningful content, resources and personal networks," said NSHSS Chairman, Claes Nobel, grandson of Ludvig Nobel and grand nephew to Alfred Nobel, who established the Nobel Prizes.

According to Nobel, this honor is presented to Mrs. Roney because of her dedication to teaching and learning and the difference she is making as a role model, source of inspiration and leader in her profession.

As an Educator of Distinction, Roney is eligible to apply for grants to attend professional conferences, purse advanced degrees and enhance the delivery of classroom instruction. Educators of Distinction may also apply for the Claes Nobel Educator of the Year, which is an award that provides $5,000 to one educator and $1,000 to nine other recipients for the impact one makes on our young future leaders.

Congratulations to Mrs. Andrea Lee Roney on this distinguished honor.
